By becoming a member of The Remedy, you are covenanting together with other brothers and sisters in Christ. The global church is Godʼs “Plan A” for reaching the world with the Gospel of Jesus; there is no “Plan B.” Each individual local church is a unique expression of the Kingdom of God on earth.

Consider the following analogies that Scripture uses to describe the local church:

Like a human body, the church is made up of many parts which function together to contribute to its corporate health. Just as the human body needs each of its parts, we need each other. As Scripture explains, an eye cannot say to a hand “I have no need of you.” Neither can we say to each other, “I have no need of you.”

The Remedy is one of many small representations of the household of God. Since God is a God of order, not chaos, He has given us some basic instructions on maintaining order in His home, the church. By taking on the name of Jesus we seek to represent Him well in our personal lives and in the life of our church.

Jesus is called the good shepherd. He extends this picture when He describes the church as a flock of sheep. Elders and pastors, sheep themselves, are also entrusted as the earthly shepherds of Godʼs flock until He returns. The job of the elders and pastors is to shepherd the flock well; protecting, feeding, and nurturing them. The sheep each identify themselves with a particular flock and, together, are responsive to the voice of Shepherd Jesus and submissive to their earthly shepherds.

A covenant is an agreement between two or more parties. God puts covenants in place with His people from time to time to define His relationship with them. Historically, God promises to uphold His side of the covenant even when His people cannot. In the case of covenants between people, both parties agree to hold up their end of the deal.

The Remedy Membership Covenant is an agreement between the Members and each other; the Members and the Elders; and between the Members and the Church as a whole. We firmly believe that if each individual is earnestly seeking to fulfill and uphold this Membership Covenant we will be well on our way to ensuring the health and growth of our church, The Remedy.

The Remedy and the Elders

Elders covenant to lead the church, teach and preach the Word, protect the church from false teachers, exhort and admonish the church in sound doctrine, visit the sick, pray, and judge doctrinal issues. In biblical terminology, elders shepherd, oversee, lead, and care for the local church and continually covenant to do so by Godʼs grace.

Remedy Members

As members of The Remedy we covenant together with our local church toward Biblical, God-honoring relationships, accountability, and growth in three directions: upward, inward, and outward.

Upwardly members commit to:

1....receiving the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and publicly identifying myself as a Christian through my relationship with Him.

2....exploring and applying the doctrinal teachings of The Remedy in my personal faith and trusting in God as He holds me accountable as a believer.

3....continual growth in with Jesus Christ by engaging with God through worship, study, and prayer.

Inwardly members commit to:

1....seeking deepened and healthy relationships with others at The Remedy by valuing fellowship, Biblical reconciliation, and the spiritual gifts of fellow members

2....submitting myself to the shepherding ministry of The Remedy and inviting mutual accountability in order to sharpen and encourage each other

3.......personally engaging in The Remedy community where I can grow with God through prayer, wise counsel, sound teaching, and service

Outwardly members commit to:

1....seizing personal opportunities to proclaim the Gospel through the relationships in my family, workplace, and neighborhood and while maintaining a godly witness

2....investing my time, talent, and treasure to advance The Remedyʼs gospel-mission as discerned by the elders, who are accountable to both God and the church

3....growing in my faithful surrender to the opportunities God presents for myself and others at The Remedy to be sent on gospel-mission here, there, and everywhere
